Methodology

The Bangladeshi University Ranking 2026 is a purely bibliometric ranking based on Scopus publication data. For each year (2023, 2024, 2025), all English-language documents with at least one author affiliated with a Bangladeshi institution were exported and analyzed. Documents are classified into two tiers:

Tier 1 (70% of final score): Peer-reviewed journal articles and reviews
Tier 2 (30% of final score): Conference papers, book chapters, editorials, letters, notes, and other document types

Within each tier, five indicators are computed and normalized (0–100 scale) using min-max normalization across all eligible institutions:

IndicatorWhat It MeasuresWeight
Total PublicationsResearch volume — how much a university produces60%
Total CitationsResearch impact — attention the work receives20%
Citations Per Publication (CPP)Average impact per paper10%
International Collaboration Rate% of papers with foreign co-authors5%
h-index (institutional)Sustained impact — productivity and citation balance5%

Total Publications receives the highest weight (60%) because, for a three-year window ending in the current year, publication volume is the most stable and reliable indicator. Citations are weighted at 20% as recent papers have limited time to accumulate citations — confirmed by mean CPP dropping from 14.23 (2023) to just 2.53 (2025).

Eligibility: Minimum 20 publications across 2023–2025, with at least one publication in each year. 167 institutions qualified out of 3,147 unique affiliation names.

Final Score = 0.70 × Tier 1 Score + 0.30 × Tier 2 Score
